Collections Gifting Artefacts Gifting Artefacts Do you think that you have an object that would fit in the Scottish Maritime Museum’s collection? It is through generous offers from individual contributors that the Scottish Maritime Museum’s collection continues to grow. We are always interested to hear more about any object that you wish to donate but for reasons of security and public accountability, we have a procedure in place to deal with potential donations. The Scottish Maritime Museum has a written policy on what we can and can’t accept from donors. To be considered for donation, an item must be one of the following: Made in Scotland Previously owned or used by Scots with a connection to the sea Used in Scotland Significant objects developed in Scotland or by Scots abroad Is not duplicated or already represented in the collection We will consider donations that fulfil the above criteria but first choice will be given to those which fit our current collecting priorities: Material representative of contemporary shipbuilding and marine engineering Social and political items post nationalisation of shipbuilding Ship-owning and ship management Maritime artwork, including prints, drawings, paintings, sculptures and photographs If you would like to donate an object, photograph, document, archive or book to the Museum please contact our curatorial department by telephone on 01294 278283 or by email [email protected] Please include as much detail as possible about the item you would like to donate, including any images. A member of staff will get back in contact with you as soon as possible. We cannot accept unarranged donations at the museum which have not been discussed previously with the curatorial team: please contact us before bringing an item with you to the museum. Valuations Due to ethical issues the curatorial staff are unable to offer valuations on your objects. Instead we suggest that you seek a valuation from a professional auctioneer, appraiser or dealer, who is better placed to offer you a valuation that reflects market value.
